The Centro Universitario de Idiomas-CUI– provides professional training and teaching programs involving foreign language learning for adults. Its an institution born, developed and formed within the University of Buenos Aires. As a result, its approach to education, academic production, training and transmission of knowledge has an unmistakable university character, with the academic rigor and excellence this implies.
CUI presents its brand new Study Abroad Program, a combined syllabus encompassing a variety of fields of study and area contents to suit the demand of international students worldwide. Each individual program allows students to take courses either in English or Spanish, and to enroll for a full semester, a trimester, the year, January term, or the summer period. Since adaptability is another of CUI’S features, tailor made courses are also available.
The Spanish Language Program for Foreign Students at CUI combines the outstanding academic level of the UBA with the modern approaches and technology used in language teaching by a team of instructors with wide experience.
Our program was created in 1998 to satisfy the growing demand from students and travelers from around the world coming to Buenos Aires to learn the language and the culture of the country. Since then the program has continued to grow and improve in accordance with international standards.
The CUI is well known for the quality of its programs and of its teaching staff. Teacher training is constant during the year, whether in seminars inside the Center or outside.
Immersion is a key factor in the learning of Spanish in Buenos Aires in general, and at CUI in particular. Contact with the language and the culture of the city and the country enhances the learning process and favors a quicker acquisition of the needed skills to interact with Argentine peers, engage in cultural activities, etc. The warmth and welcoming attitude of ‘porteños’ (the inhabitants of Buenos Aires), always ready to help tourists and foreign students, is a bonus in this process..
The International Studies Office - ISO- was created in 2005 to organize and conduct the process of positioning the CUI as a desired destination for international students worldwide, it stemmed from the original Spanish Language Program which already existed since 1998. The idea underlying the ISO philosophy and action was and still is that Argentine higher education is an outstanding feature or the country’s cultural products, capable of competing in the international market of educational services for its renowned academic qualitiy and competitive prices.
From a passive strategy of student recruitment until 2005, the ISO proposed a change into a more proactive one in the sense of permanent recruiting abroad, and achieved a very rapid success in markets such as China, USA, Brazil and some parts of the European Union, by means of a permanent and strong presence in educational fairs sucha as NAFSA or the China Education Expo, official trade missions, and individual visits to colleague universities and educational institutions in the aforementioned places.
