This course will focus on the Process of Integration in Latin American through the analysis of the institutions and agreements which paved the way to it.
Structure, total hours and modality. Students will study the Latin American Free Trade Association - Asociación Latinoamericana de Libre Comercio (ALALC), the historical context, the contribution of CEPAL, the 1960 Montevideo Treaty, its objectives and mechanisms of Partial Agreement, Regional Scope Agreement, Regional Tariff Preference and the Evolution and economic performance. The second part of the course will concentrate on the Latin American Integration Association - Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración- (ALADI): 1980 Montevideo Treaty, objectives and instruments, the integration by level of development, current status. Atthe end of the course we will study the Sub-regional Agreements: Central American Common Market, CARICOM. Andean Group, G-3, ALCSA, in all the cases, the evolution and current status.
The course will have a total of 30 hours, distributed along the 4 weeks in morning periods. Lectures and seminars can be taught in English or in Spanish, depending on the language level of the students. In addition, an elementary, intermediate or advanced Spanish language module will be taught to students interested in enhancing their Spanish skills for a total of 60 hours.

The Process of Integration in Latin America Course: 30 hours total = 2 credits
Lectures will focus on theoretical as well as historical aspects of the main themes in the syllabus; seminars will consist of discussion of the relevant texts and documents related to topics previously agreed.
Students’ active participation in discussions and workshops are important requirements for receiving full credit. Accreditation: Self-scheduled examination or paper option.
